Focus: Developing students' understanding of programmatic music by examining how compositional devices can be used to shape a sense of time and place, direct our focus, and amplify emotion. Building on students' understanding of the relationship between melody, harmony and texture, the unit comprises a range of exercises in deconstructing existing film score fragments, and an extended composing and arranging project to put it all into practice. Resources include teaching materials, student exercises, progress and assessment tools, 'do now' tasks and supporting teacher notes.
